Mount Everest is the world's highest point from the sea level. Every mountaineer has this dream to reach at the top and look around the world. But most of us are not at all aware how to climb a mount Everest, what are the guidelines, what are the minimum requirements, what are the fees and what other permissions needed etc. So lets discuss in detail.

Mount Everest is also known as 'SagarMatha' in Nepali language and 'Chomolungma' in Tibetan. The sub range in the Himalayas where Mount Everest is located is known as 'Mahalangur Himal' subrange.

The height of the Mount Everest is 8,848 m which is nearly about 9 KM. So who ever want to climb Mount Everest must have to walk 9 Km towards the peak of the mountain.

How to climb Mount Everest?

There are two routes to climb Mount Everest. one is from Nepal and Other one is from Tibet. Most prefer to climb from Nepal side. Journey begins from the Base camp.

How to reach Mount Everest Base Camp?

The nearest airport to the Everest Base Camp is Lukla, Nepal. There is direct flight from Kaathmandu (Capital of Nepal) to Lukla Airport.

Then there is 10 day trek to the base camp of Mountain Everest. Most wait weeks in the base camp till the Everest's summit open in May. Then they trek towards the peak in team.

Where is the challenge?

The climate of Mount Everest is not at all easy. One reason it is cold and dry. There are many risks waiting covertly and attack stealthily. Such as altitude sickness, weather, wind, avalanche and ice fall. Thats why till 2019, more than 400 people had lost their lives. And the tough part, most of these dead mountaineers body is still there.

How people die in Mount Everest?

Most die because of sudden avalanche or slipping from the mountain. Others run out of oxygen. Few lose their life because of the high speed cold wind which eventually causes hyperthermia. And very few die because of water deposits inside the lungs. One major issue which every mountaineer encounter is the altitude issue.

As we climb up, the level of oxygen decreases. The brain needs sufficient plenty amount of oxygen to function right. Therefore due to less oxygen brain stops functioning properly. It results in hallucination. And also Frostbite, snow blindness and hypothermia are major threats.

Minimum Eligibility & costs

Minimum age requirement is 18 years old. All foreigners must have to buy $11000 permit from Nepal Government.  Apart from this, the cost to climb Mount Everest may vary from $30000 to $100000. It includes individual guide, gadgets, jackets, gloves, oxygen cylinder, food and camping. If you are thinking to climb Everest on your self, then forget. You are going to need a guide for sure.
Note: Due increase in number of deaths on the mountain, Nepal Government has become very strict and permits are allotted only to Mountaineers.So even if you have money then you may not get permit to climb the mountain. 

The guides from Nepal are also known as Sherpas. But all sherpas are not guide. And also those sherpas who are active in this region, all are not guide. Few of them are cook. They prepare food at the base camp. A cook sherpa may make $25000 to $5000 per mountaineer where as the guide may make $10000 to $30000 per mountaineer.

The general belief about the sherpas are that these guide are so habitual with the weather, climate of Everest, no harm is to them. But it is not true. Among the people who lost their life in the mountain, there are plenty sherpas also.
