What is Neet? National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET is a test organised by CBSE in India. Those who wish to study Medical or dental in Government Medical colleges or private medical colleges must have to attend this test.

What is Neet?

Neet Exam was formerly known All India Pre Medical Test. Now it is known as Neet Exam. Those who want to study graduate and post graduate Medical courses in Government Medical Colleges or Private colleges in India, they must have to appear in this Entrance Exam. Their selection in the medical colleges are based upon the rank they achieve in the entrance examinations. 

Full Form of NEET

The full form of NEET is "National Eligibility cum Entrance Test".

First All Indian Entrance Examination was conducted on 2013.

The duration of this entrance examination is 3 hours. 

Subjects of this entrance examination are: Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The score or grade range covers: -180 to +720

The total score is 720. (Biology:360, Physics: 180, Chemistry:180)

This entrance examination is conducted once a year. 

The main purpose of NEET entrance examination: Admission into undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges(Both Government and Private).

Why Neet?

The real purpose behind Neet Entrance Exam is to bring all medical aspirants in India under single entrance examination. Till now, there were more than 20 medical entrance examinations in India for admission into various Government and Private Medical colleges as well. Most of the aspiring Medical College Student used to go through 8 to 10 entrance examinations. These unnecessary created huge pressure on such scholar students. To reduce down the pressure, Government has introduced Neet. It will replace AIPMT, Delhi PMT, R PMT, WBJEE, EAMCET etc.

What is the Benefit of the Neet?

The first benefit of Neet exam is it reduced down the pressure on the aspiring medical college students. It is able to stop private medical colleges and deemed university from holding back seats. Earlier there used to 200 questions to solve in 3 hours but now there will be only 180 questions with same duration of time. It would help students to get more time to solve the questions. Prior to Neet, there used to be multiple cases of paper leak. But Neet is transparent and fair. 

What is the difference between IIT and Neet?

The main difference between IIT and Neet is, IIT is an Institute which offers Engineering B.Tech and M.Tech degree courses where as Neet is an Entrance Examination for admission in MBBS and BDC courses of different Government and Private Medical Colleges of India. There are 23 IIT institutes in India. AIIMS and JIPMER entrance examinations are not part of NEET exam.

What is the eligibility criteria for Neet?

The eligibility criteria for Neet Exam is as follows:

Education: 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subject in both Classes 11 and 12 from a recognized board.

Age: Minimum 17 years as on December 31, 2019 and Maximum 25 years of age or more for unreserved category candidates and 30 years of age for reserved and PwD category candidates.

Marks: UR - 50%, OBC/SC/ST - 40%, PWD - 45% (minimum aggregate marks only for PCB subjects)

How many times one can attend Neet?

There is no limit set on how many times one can attend Neet Exam.

Is 12th Marks important for Neet?

Yes, 12th marks matters qualifying Neet Exam. The marks requirement for a candidate to appear in Neet Exam is as below:

General 50%

SC/ST/OBC 40%

PH/PWD 45% (depends on the category to which the candidate belongs)

What is the pass mark for Neet Exam?

The pass marks for Neet Exam is as follows:

Unreserved (UR): 50th Percentile (101-134)
Unreserved Physically Handicapped (UR-PH): 45th Percentile (133-120)
Scheduled Caste (SC): 40th Percentile (133-107)
Scheduled Tribe (ST): 40th Percentile (133-107)
Other Backward Classes (OBC): 40th Percentile (133-107)
