Traditional Indian Foods are the popular Indian recipes which has been in existence since long time. And the recipe has been passed from a family to next generation family. Astonishingly, people around the world believe Butter Chicken, Chicken Biryani, chicken tandoori are the traditional Indian cuisine. But thankfully no. In fact, These are Mughlai Dishes. Because so many restaurants around the glove sell these dishes in the name of Indian cuisines.

By the way I am not against of the above mentioned foods. I am die hard lover of Butter chicken, chicken biryani and chicken tandoori. But my intention to draw attention towards real authentic Indian Foods. The traditional Indian Foods are purely organic food which means no egg, fish or meat.

Following are the real traditional Indian foods which every food lover must try at least once in life time.

01. Dalma

Dalma is very old, traditional and purely Indian dish. Dalma is a recipe contains lots of different type vegetables such as brinjal, potato, tomato, drum sticks, sweet potato, pumpkins etc. boiled in lentils soup.

Navratna Korma is another popular but very old traditional Indian Recipe. Various vegetables such as beans, potato, tomato, carrot etc are cooked together. If we say Navratna Korma is multiple vegetable curry, then it wont be wrong. For gravy in this dish, we use paste of almond or coconut or cashew nuts paste.

The name Navratna literally means nine jewels. From cooking context nine vegetable. More specifically we add nine types of different vegetables.

Most mistakenly believes Pulav is the different name for the biryani but in reality Pulav is different recipe and age old recipe in India. For pulav we use Basmati Rice. Pulav is a combination of various types of vegetables cooked with basmati rice with other spices. 

In general we use carrot, bit, cauliflower, beans, green pea etc.

These days, various types of pulav available in the market. Paneer Pulav, Mutton Pulav, Chicken Pulav, Egg Pulav, Palak Pulav, Jackfruit Pulav etc.

Payasam is one of the popular dish in Indian cuisines. Payasam is also known as rice pudding. Rice boiled in thickened milk is Payasam. Ghee and other dry fruits are optionally added.

Note: Payasam is also available with different ingredient such as Semaiya (Instead of noodle kind looking thin thing) or wheat.

Podo Pitha is one of the very old traditional Indian recipe. Still today at various occasions lady prepare this dish. It is a batter of grindered rice with some spices and sugar. It is cooked under high temperature.

If we say Podo Pitha is a cake made with rice batter then it wont be wrong.

Paneer recipes are ancient and traditional Indian Recipes. In some countries they call paneer as tofu. Palak paneer is the popular dish in India. With goes well with rice or paratha or naan or rumali roti. By the way the English name for Palak is Spinach. If you are fan of Popeye Show then you must be aware of how powerful is Spinach. Palak Paneer is Spinach Tofu Curry.

Khichdi is popular healthy dish. It is age old recipe still in existence. So many popular restaurants offer khichdi. There are three main ingredients in Khichdi preparation: Rice, Lentils and vegetables. If we say khichdi is thick soup of rice, lentils and vegetables with other spices, then it wont be wrong.

Dal Makhani is a lentils soup with added Makhan (cream). Dal Makhani is widely available in Dhabas(The restaurants beside to the national highways). Dal Makhani goes well with Roti or naan or rumali roti. Less people prefer to eat dal makhani with rice.

Idli and chutney is popular morning Breakfast in India. People also prefer to eat Idli and Chutney in Lunch or Dinner. Idli is steamed rice batter. Chutney literally means paste. Peanut chutney or cocunut chutney or onion chutney or chilli chutney or mustard seed chutney goes well with idli. 

10. Aloo Bonda

Aloo Bonda is the most favourite snacks among children. Of course all age group people love this dish. It is also one of the favourite age old Indian Recipe. Deep fried balls of smashed potatoes and spices dipped in gram flour. Aloo Bonda is enjoyed with pudina chutney or tomota ketchup or chilli sauce or onion chutney.
