JAGANNATH RATH YATRA is Hindu Festival held in Puri, Odisha, India each year. It is annual celebration. In this celebration, Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balvadra and his younger sister Subhadra, they visit their aunt's house known in chariots. Lord Jagannath's aunt house is also known as 'Gundicha Ghar'.
Rath means chariots. But these chariots are pulled by thousands of devotees.
This day is special for every one. Because who could not get inside Jagannath Temple to see Lord Jagannath, they can see on this day.
After staying nine days, they are returned to main temple in their chariots. This is known as 'Bahuda Yatra'
Jagannath Rath Yatra is the oldest Ratha Jatra taking place in India and the World, whose descriptions can be found in Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, and Skanda Purana and Kapila Samhita.

Each year, three new chariots are build. Specialised team of carpenters brought phassi, dhausa wood from Dasapalla, a village in Odisha for the chariots making. These carpenters hold hereditary rights and privileges.
The three chariots are decorated as per the unique scheme prescribed and followed for centuries stand on the Bada Danda, the Grand Avenue.

The chariot of Lord Jagannath is known as: Nandighosha (45 feet high and 45 feet square at the wheel level). Nandighosha chariot has 16 wheels, and each wheel has 7 feet diameter.
The chariot of Lord Balabhadra is known as: Taladhwaja(44 feet high). Taladhwaja chariot has 14 wheels and each wheel has 7 feet diameter.
The chariot of Goddess Subhadra is known as: Dwarpadalan(42 feet high). Dwarpadalan chariot has 12 wheels.
Each of the chariots has deities around made of wood. Each chariot has four horses (wood idols) at the front.
Each chariot has charioteer known as Sarathi. The name of Nandighosha Sarathi is Daruka, name of Taladhwaja sarathi is Matali and name of Dwarpadalan sarathi is Arjuna.
Rath Yatra festival is not limited in Puri. It is a festival celebrated around the world.
